Our experts have over 25 years of collective industry experience in managing financial tax services, strategic development, project management, and SR&ED project submissions.

Spence Walker, CPA, CA
Chief Executive Officer
Spence Walker founded Maxim Innovation in 2006 and is the current CEO. He leads the firm’s strategic development which includes managing the financial and tax services. In addition to his role as CEO of Maxim, Spence has been an active partner since 2004 at Kreston GTA LLP, a full-service assurance, tax, and advisory firm. Spence is an expert in Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credits in Canada. Previously, Spence worked for a mid-sized accounting firm where he gained experience with U.S. and Canadian public sector clients‒ a niche he continues to do a significant amount of work in. Spence earned his BComm in 2001 from Ryerson University, his CA designation in 2003, and his CPA designation in 2004

Sarmen Khatcherian, C.E.T.
Chief Operating Officer
Sarmen Khatcherian joined Maxim as an SR&ED project manager in 2010 and within two years, rose to the position of Innovation Consultant. After thousands of successful SR&ED project submissions and a track record of successful claims, Sarmen was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in January of 2015. In addition, Sarmen brings over 10 years of industry experience, specializing in project management, mechanical engineering technology, and SR&ED claim submissions for a multitude of industry sectors. Sarmen plays an integral role in the preparation, submission, and defense of SR&ED claims and continues to evolve Maxim’s proven SR&ED claim methodology. Sarmen earned his advanced diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (Automotive Manufacturing) in 2009 and earned his C.E.T. professional designation in 2013.
